One of the most spectacular things about Kakadu National Park is its wetlands, but many of these can be hard to reach and are completely inaccessible during the wet season. This is where a scenic flight comes into its own, allowing every member of the family to see a big swath of this enormous protected reserve, including mighty rivers and vast wetlands, in a short time and without any strenuous exercise. If you ask a local if there is one activity you must do while you are in Kakadu, chances are they will say fly over it. Highlights on the 30-minute scenic flight include the erosion of the Arnhem Land sandstone plateau and its famous Archway, the breathtaking Dinosaur Valley, the snaking East Alligator River, and the Magela Wetlands. The hour-long flights take in much more of the East Alligator River and the lush vegetation that surrounds it—you might even see some crocodiles from the comfort of your seat.
