The Ozark Highlands Trail spans 165 miles from Lake Fort Smith State Park to the Buffalo River. White-tailed deer, black bear, and wild turkey are commonly spotted in fall, when crimson- and gold-leafed hardwoods tower beside shimmering streams and massive boulders. Wildflowers burst open in spring, lining this seldom-crowded path with lavender, peach, and honey-tinted blooms.
