Payne Lake Nature Trail is located at the Payne Lake Recreation Area, 20 miles west of Centreville. It is a 2.5 mile loop that is moderate in difficulty. The trail takes you through a bottomland hardwood drainage, around the lake's shoreline, and across a scenic ridge. Along this trail you can witness the effects of beaver, see migratory waterfowl, observe endangered and threatened species, and listen to the relaxing sounds of the forest.

Directions: From Centreville, Travel 2 miles west on US Hwy. 82, turn south (left) onto State Rd 5 and travel for 6 miles. Turn west (right) onto State Rd 25 and travel 15 miles to Payne Lake.
