The lakefront shopping and recreation area in downtown Duluth, Canal Park is so named for the channel of water that connects Lake Superior to the busy port. Situated in the former warehouse district, the park has retained a uniquely gritty and historic feel as its former industrial buildings have been converted into shops, hotels, restaurants, cafes, and tourist attractions. It’s home to the well-known Aerial Lift Bridge, a three-mile long lakefront path, a lighthouse pier, the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center. Visitors can stroll the boardwalk, bike or skate the paved lakefront trail, or walk out on the pier to watch the ships go by. The commercial area offers a variety of dining and shopping options, from antiques and art galleries, to pubs and popcorn stands. When you’re done eating, shopping, and sightseeing, simply walk back to your hotel—-there are several to choose from in the Canal Park area.
