This short, easy trail is a good nature walk to take with children. It follows an abandoned road northwestward from the B loop of the Indian Well Campground. The trail leads through high desert terrain that is very flat allowing for views of the surrounding area. It winds around the northeastern flanks of Crescent Butte and narrows to a single track near the end of the route. Birders will enjoy this trek because of the varied species often visible along the route. The trail ends one mile from the campground before reaching Hill Road. The terrain provides no shade, therefore the best time to take this walk is in the morning or evening hours.
Directions: From Lava Beds Visitor Center, Cross Hill Road to the campground access road and enter loop B. Do not park in any campsite.
