Gum guru William Wrigley, Jr, also played an integral role in improving and developing Catalina Island. After his death in 1932, the Wrigley Memorial was built to honor him, using as many local Catalina materials as possible from the quarried stones in the concrete to the blue flagstone rocks (from Little Harbor) on the ramps and terraces, to the finishing tiles from the Catalina Pottery plant. His wife, Ada, came up with the idea for a botanical garden showcasing plants from a diverse variety of habitats and continents. The nearly 38-acre garden has since been revitalized to place a special emphasis on native plants, especially those unique to California islands—including rare and endangered species. The garden focuses on conservation and protection of these plants.

Kids under 12 are free and adult admission is only $5, making for an inexpensive and relaxing afternoon walk while getting to know some of California's most beautiful and rare plant life.
