Oak Flat Trail is an interior loop trail in San Mateo Canyon Wilderness. Located in the western area of the Wilderness the trail connects with Bluewater, Verdugo and Lucas Canyon trails. The trail's name is derived from its habitat, a broad area of oaks and grasses; wonderful display of spring wildflowers.
Directions: From Lake Elsinore, CA, Travel southwest on Highway 74 venturing into the mountains, then passing the Visitor Center / Fire Station in El Cariso. Proceed another 3.6 miles on Hwy. 74 to reach trailhead parking. Take Bear Canyon Loop west to Four Corners. Proceed west on Verdugo Trail to reach Oak Flat Trail.
