Penguins are just one of the many varieties of animals from around the world at the Dallas World Aquarium. ((courtesy, Dallas World Aquarium))

The Dallas World Aquarium is home to animals from five continents, 14 countries, three oceans, and countless rivers and seas. Housed in an old warehouse, it also includes an aviary; a South Africa exhibit; and a rainforest exhibit with amphibians, reptiles, mammals (everything from vampire bats to Antillean manatees), and fish. The aquarium is also home to a jaguar and a leopard. Daily interactive activities include otter, penguin, sea turtle, and manatee feedings. The aquarium is perfect for school visits, with an on-site staff that works with educators to tailor lesson plans. The aquarium also houses Eighteen-O-One, a good restaurant for a quick snack or lunch, along with Café Maya and Jungle Café. The Dallas World Aquarium is open year-round— September 1 to February 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and March 1 to August 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $20.95 for adults, $16.95 for seniors, and $12.95 for children.
