The trail (marked # 668 on the San Juan National Forest Recreation Map) lies within the Weminuche Wilderness. Motorized vehicles and mountain bikes are not allowed. Portions are steep with many switchbacks. The trail passes through aspen forests to the small, shallow lake covered by water lilies in a small depression surrounded by aspen trees. The lake is not stocked with fish. Horses seldom use this trail.
Directions: From Bayfield, Colorado, Travel 18 miles north on County Road #501 beyond Vallecito Reservoir. After passing the west side of the reservoir, watch for the Forest Service Work Center about a mile north. Parking is available on the right at the trail sign just beyond. If no parking is available, continue around the corner for about 500 feet to a small pull-off on your right.
