Easily one of the most famous dive sites in the world, the Blue Hole is a massive, quarter-mile wide sinkhole. Once a cavern, it collapsed leaving a near-perfect circle of fringing reef around its perimeter. The relatively shallow areas outside of the atoll appear light blue, providing a stark contrast to the deep sapphire hue inside the crater, which reaches depths up to 480 feet. Dives here plunge to about 140 feet, giving divers only a few minutes to explore the bottom-most shelves of the cavern and its 20-foot long stalactites. Few reef fish hang out down here, but the occasional bull shark sighting adds some excitement.
