• Snooty the Manatee is the aquarium's sunglass-wearing cartoon mascot, and he's actually a real manatee. Born in captivity and originally named "Baby Snoots," Snooty has lived here since 1949; his birthday is celebrated each year by generations of people who grew up visiting the famous manatee.
• During the summer, the South Florida Museum offers a host of week-long camps that—if you plan your visit just right—might work out as a great adventure for the kids while allowing parents a little guilt-free "grownup time" during the day. The day camps feature various themes, including Archaeology, Manatees, and Space Exploration.
• The South Florida Museum examines the history and natural history of the state. Its voluminous collection of Floridian Native American Artifacts is without parallel; the museum's Mastodon skeleton is a cast of one discovered in 1968 in a river bottom near Tallahassee. Even today, it's the largest North American Mastodon skeleton ever discovered.
