The most compelling area of this superb museum is the actual archaeological excavation site over which the museum is built. The exhibit Where Montreal Was Born shows six centuries of Montreal history through various layers in the underground area and lots of artifacts.
Guided tours are available in English (typically in the afternoons), and are free with museum admission.
Closed on Mondays. Ages five and younger, free.
