Montreal's gracious fine arts museum is the oldest such institution in the country. Both Canadian and Quebecois art are well represented here, and temporary exhibitions, such as ones featuring queer designer Yves Saint Laurent and American prints from between the two World Wars fill the rambling, multi-pavilion museum's galleries. Collections of Mediterranean Archeology, European Art (including handsome Picassos, Rembrandts, and El Grecos), and Decorative Arts are other draws to the museum that first opened its doors in 1879. It moved to its stately current home in 1912. Make sure to schedule time to have lunch in the museum's excellent restaurant, the Café des Beaux-Arts.
