The Santa Maria Museum of Flight opened with five aircraft on display in 1990, and today houses 11 aircraft, a Bowers Flybaby, Rand KR-2, 1929 Fleet Model 2, Parker Sailplane, Jensen Hang Glider, Stinson Reliant, 1931 Great Lakes (the Hunt Special), Klemm 35, North American F-86 and McDonnel/Douglas F-4S Phantom. The Museum of Flight and the Santa Maria Public Airport sponsor a fly-in every year the last week in August. The event presents a magnificent display of classic warbirds, current military aircraft, and military team demonstrations of current military aircraft. Besides the planes, there are many gift booth displays that sell all sorts of gadgets and gifts related to flying and great food is always available.
