BeachExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • Make a point to walk over to Montecito and Chapala to take a gander at what is reportedly the largest tree of its kind in North America. It doesn't lure as many visitors these days, but it is still impressive.
  • The 78-foot-tall tree's canopy spread has been measured at 170 feet—wide enough to shade 1,000 people, or so the legend goes.
  • Ask locals for the story about how this tree was planted from a seed back in 1877.
