  • You may have come for the animals, but most kids spend plenty of time on the low-tech anthill, where they can slide down the turf on pieces of cardboard—hours of fun. The zoo train is another favorite.
  • Visit during the week to feel like you have your favorite animals to yourself. A great time to come is an hour before closing, when most people are starting to head home.
  • Views and grassy lawns make the Santa Barbara Zoo a popular wedding spot. But you don't have to be a guest to experience the setting—there are lots of after-hours and special events, from outdoor movies to sleepovers.
