  • Docents lead tours every day. You can also explore on your own with a Family Discovery Sheet—but some of the best discoveries are the ones you make on your own, whether spotting a woodpecker or gazing up at the enormous redwoods.
  • Be sure to check out the Mission Dam and aqueduct, built by the native Chumash to supply the Santa Barbara Mission, downstream, with water. You'll also find a nearby exhibit that highlights which plants native people used to make baskets, string, and more.
  • Home gardeners will want to visit the garden's nursery for California-native plants and several plant sales throughout the year. The garden's gift shop has a good selection of nature- and science-themed books, games, and toys for kids.
