The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is one of the leading art museums in California and ranks among the top 10 regional art museums in the country. It contains some 27,000 works of art that span more than 5,000 years of human creativity. Works by Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Georgia O'Keeffe are among the highlights of its collection. The museum's 60,000 square feet include exhibition galleries, the Museum Store, a cafe, a 154-seat auditorium, and a library containing 50,000 books and 55,000 slides. It is home to an outstanding permanent collection of works that range from pre-Columbian sculpture to 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century art from Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Particular strengths of the collection are 19th- and 20th-century American and European art; contemporary American painting; photography; and the arts of Asia, especially China. Admission is free for members, $9 for adults, and $6 for seniors and students.
