• If you are in the hiking mood, try the American River Hike and Bike Trail, the Oaks Nature Trail (formerly Peninsula Trail), or the Doton's Cove Trail.
• Beals Point Campground offers tent and RV sites complete with restrooms and showers. For the more primitive camper, try the smaller Peninsula Campground on southeast side of the lake below the town of Cool.
• Visit the CSUS (California State University–Sacramento) Aquatic Center at Lake Natoma. The center is public and offers boat rentals (including canoes and kayaks), and classes in boating safety. The center is wheelchair-accessible. www.csusaquaticcenter.com
