• In addition to some kid-friendly interactive science displays and demonstrations, the museum's North Florida Trail exhibit features native northern Florida animals. This alone makes the museum a nice first stop if you've just arrived in the area and plan on spending time outdoors.
• Each summer, the Museum offers a series of Cosmic Concerts inside the planetarium's 60-foot dome—a laser and special effects show set to the music of a single artist or genre. The 2008 schedule included Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and shows featuring music by Garth Brooks and various New Wave 1980s performers. Concert admission is not included with your museum entrance fee.
• Because the museum provides free parking downtown, some visitors to Jacksonville Landing, across the St. John's river, leave their cars at the museum and take a water taxi—or simply walk across the John T. Alsop, Jr. Bridge (about 1.2 miles each way, and not advisable after dark).

• When you enter, ask for the schedule of Keeper Talks that happen throughout the day in different parts of the zoo
• Some rides (including the train) and Stingray Bay are not included in general admission, so be prepared to pay extra
