Where could possibly be better to catch a hot Broadway show or settle in for an evening with the symphony than in an incredibly atmospheric, beautifully restored old vaudeville movie palace? San Antonio's much-loved, city-owned Majestic Theatre is both a State and National Historic Landmark, and shows from Wicked and Cats to The Color Purple and Avenue Q star on the 2008/2009 calendar. Designed and built in 1929, the whole experience of going to Majestic is impressive. The venue features an ornate, opulent foyer, intricate flourishes in the lobby, and a grand, old auditorium with a vaulted, star-adorned ceiling. Spanish Mission, Baroque, and Mediterranean architectural and design influences are packed in to the 2,300-seat theater.
