Monte Vista and neighboring Olmos Park are a pair of up-and-coming neighborhoods north of downtown and comprise San Antonio's main gayborhood. While other areas such as King William Historic District have a high number of LGBT residents, Monte Vista has both the residents and the lion's share of the city's gay and lesbian bars, clubs, and LGBT businesses. The neighborhood even has a gay-owned, gay-popular B&B, the Painted Lady, which makes a perfect base for exploring Monte Vista's streets, bars, and restaurants. Among some elegant, revitalized Hollywood-style Georgian and Moorish homes, gentrifying Monte Vista still has its downtrodden stretches.
