Many of Providence's gay bars are within walking distance downtown, but you can always follow the clickety-clack of the tall trannies in high heels to The Dark Lady. It’s a fun, anything-goes bar/lounge, especially popular with twinks, drag queens, and the city’s own gay mayor, David Cicilline, who often holds court here. Beyond the drag, there are lesbian nights, leather-themed parties, and everyone seems to end up here at one point or another. Innocuously housed behind a generic brick façade, it’s a noisy, crowded, chandelier-lit space known for its elaborate shows, pumping DJs, and overall friendliness.
