South of town but definitely worth the trek is the massive, detailed, and overwhelmingly complete Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts Museum, sponsored by the famous Rhode Island cooking school of the same name. Anyone who likes eating will appreciate this state-of-the-art 25,000-square-foot space filled with bizarre, old-fashioned cooking implements, a stove museum, rare china, cookbooks dating back to the 1500s, menus from White House dinners, and full-scale replicas of antique railroad dining cars and restaurants from the 1950s. Frequent live events focus on specifics like wedding cakes throughout the ages, and alum Emeril is of course prominently featured as well. No wonder the city has such a great foodie scene!
