There is always something going on at the Fremont Street Experience, in the heart of downtown Las Vegas on the historic street that started it all. This one-of-a-kind entertainment venue is home to Viva Vision, the biggest big screen on the planet. This behemoth—which towers 90 feet above a pedestrian mall lined with shopping kiosks and two performance stages—has more than 12 million lights in its canopy and 550,000 watts of concert-quality sound. Free nightly shows begin on the hour starting at dusk. Ten casinos line the street, along with more than 60 restaurants and thousands of loose slot machines. Free concerts, special events, and roaming street performers entertain nearly 17 million visitors each year. The Fremont East Entertainment District—the three blocks from Las Vegas Boulevard to Eighth Street—just completed a six-month improvement project that includes neon-lit gateways, expanded sidewalks, and bronze medallions embedded in the sidewalks to commemorate significant Las Vegas milestones. This area is also home to hot nightspots such as Beauty Bar, The Griffin, and the Downtown Cocktail Room.
