Looking for an activity that's a little more child-oriented than Bourbon Street? The Louisiana Children's Museum, located in the Warehouse Arts District just blocks from the French Quarter, offers 30,000 square feet of space for kids to learn and play, and gives their parents a chance to enjoy some air-conditioning. Kids can pilot a towboat down the Mississippi river, "catch" their shadow, watch a live performance and much, much more—over 100 exhibits in all. Babies and toddlers can explore First Adventures, an enclosed play space offering little ones a chance to climb, slide, build, and pretend.

The museum is stroller-friendly and offers lockers (for a fee) if you want to stash your stuff while you roam. There's a vending area inside the museum, and although there's no restaurant you can stop at one of the restaurants in the area before you come or once you've had your fill of fun. Once you've paid admission, you can come and go throughout the day.
