• This operation of the National Park Service covers six areas including the Chalmette Battlefield, where Andrew Jackson led the Americans in victory in the Battle of New Orleans. Other sites are focused on the cultural and natural history of South Louisiana.
• The Barataria Preserve section offers guided walks, canoe tours and more in its 20,000 acres. It is known as a great birding destination as well.
• Checkout the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette. It focuses on Cajun lifeways, and other groups who called Bayou Vermillion home.
