The Oprah Winfrey Show first aired in 1984 as AM Chicago, and eventually became the highest-rated talk show in TV history. As a journalist, philanthropist, and general expert on all things, Oprah successfully transitioned the program from a tabloid-style talk show to a celebrity exposé to an award-winning hour of reviews, commentary, and heated debate.

Beloved for her smart and selective tastes in literature, art, music, and of course, star guest selection, Oprah has conducted some of the most intriguing interviews ever shown on television. Whether it's former supermodel Cindy Crawford, mind-master Dr. Phil, or the guy next door who lost 100 pounds, wrote a book, and launched a fat-free cookie line—all while building a school for underprivileged children—audience members walk off the set with a bigger conscience and priceless nuggets of wisdom that only Oprah can provide.

Today's episodes are taped from August to November and January to May. While the demand for show tickets far exceeds the supply (consider yourself lucky if you can get a pair), tickets are available almost exclusively by phone. There is no pre-selection of shows or topics and all guests are checked by security.
