Musicians used to call San Diego a bit of a black hole on the jazz circuit, but the city got its first jazz-cum-supper club with the arrival of $3.5 million Anthology. The beautiful state-of-the-art venue has drawn major talents like Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, the Manhattan Transfer, and Arturo Sandoval, though the nightly roster increasingly stretches into classic rock, folk, soul, and classical. Plus, the kitchen is definitely in the groove, serving delicious, market-fresh cuisine. The 250-seat venue can be counted on for a house band on Tuesdays (it's a cheap date night), and watch for Luscious Noise, a nimble local classical multimedia group that performs occasionally.
