Italian culture, food, and customs have enriched countless U.S. neighborhoods and cities, especially among the more than twenty Little Italies across America. San Diego's Italian District has had its ups and downs since the 1920s, when thousands of Italian families lived and worked in the area.

Today, residents are reversing a somewhat unfavorable rap, promoting the town's art galleries, boutiques, and of course some of the finest Italian bistros, cafes, and trattorias around. Check out the Saturday morning farmer's market on Date Street, which boasts the freshest produce, meats, and flowers.
