Most visitors can find their way to Philly's big draw, the 55-acre park that spans 20 city blocks and contains a heaping dose of American history, including the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall (where the U.S. Constitution was debated and signed), the First and Second Banks of the United States, and Congress Hall. But in July 2005, the City of Brotherly Love became the first in the country to acknowledge LGBT history with a permanent marker. The blue-and-yellow sign sits across from the Liberty Bell Center and commemorates the site of peaceful protests for gay equality, held each July 4 from 1965 to 1969.
