The 42-acre Philadelphia Zoo is home to more than 1,300 animals. Included in the zoo's population are carnivorous mammals such as the African lion and the African wild dog; hoofed mammals such as the bearded pig, the zebra, and the hippopotamus; primates such as the lemur and the gorilla; and rarer mammals such as the aardvark and the two-toed sloth. The zoo is also home to a giant collection of reptiles, amphibians, and birds, including rare creatures such as the African bullfrog, the hourglass tree frog, the dwarf Surinam toad, and the Northern bald eagle. A variety of rides, including the Amazon Rainforest Carousel, the Camel Safari, the Draft Horse and Pony Rides, and the Swan Boats, are particular favorites of the zoo's younger visitors.
