Bringing a small splash of New York style to laid back Vancouver since it sashayed onto the scene in 2006, Lounge 1181 attracts the city's most stylish gay folks. Predominantly gay male-dominated, there are always at least a couple of hipster lesbian posses lounging around, too. The distinctive décor is unlike anywhere else on the strip—generous banquettes, a long swathe of a bar, and sexy, low lighting. The slim venue offers evening entertainment from cabaret to movie nights. Despite its hip factor, 1181 is one of the friendliest bars in town, its tight quarters making meeting and mingling all the more likely. Prices on the hefty (both in terms of range and actual weight) drinks menu are surprisingly reasonable. And if all of this wasn't reason enough to spend your pre-club hours or après-dinner martini slot here, the attractive male and female staff act as an added allure.
