As part of the Scenic Drive Cross-country Ski Trail System, this National Lakeshore trail affords everything but views of the renowned sand dunes. Expect forests of maple and beech where spring wildflowers hug the trail and morel mushrooms emerge amid the leafy forest floor. Birdsong breaks the path amid shady summer canopies that evolve into a kaleidoscope of brilliant fall colors. Another feature that makes this trail so unique is the beginning ascent and the ending descent. Casual hikers will want to take several breaks. Note: Hunters use this area during the fall; wear blaze orange.
