The Windy Moraine Loop is a diversion from the sandy trails that hug Lake Michigan's shoreline. This trail carries you through several habitats including open field and forest. About midway, you'll come to the Windy Moraine Overlook where picturesque views of the National Lakeshore await. From this lookout, you may be able to view some of the park's resident wildlife as well. Sights that include an old mill and apple orchard mark evidence of pre-park days.

Note: Hunters do use this area during the fall hunting season; wear blaze orange when hiking.

Directions: From Empire, MI, Travel north on M-109 approximately 4 miles. Turn right onto Welch Road. Trailhead parking is a few hundred yards ahead.
