The Emerald Necklace is a collection of parks that connects Boston Common and the Public Garden with Franklin Park. ((courtesy, Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau))

This stretch of parks runs from the Back Bay to Dorchester. The parks connect Boston Common and the Public Garden with Franklin Park. They are designated Boston Landmarks and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can begin their tour at Boston Common, which dates back to 1634 and is one of the oldest parks in the United States. Adjacent to the common is the Public Garden, established in 1837 as the first public botanical garden in the U.S. Just a short walk farther is Back Bay Fens, a beautiful park with community gardens; Kelleher Rose Garden; and a World War II, Korean, and Vietnam War memorial. Farther along are the Riverway and Olmsted Park. Then there's Jamaica Pond, a popular spot for joggers and walkers. The final two stops are Arnold Arboretum and Franklin Park.
