Boston, one of the country's oldest cities, is filled with history at every turn. The unique and absorbing Freedom Trail takes visitors to 16 historical sites that cover two-and-a-half centuries of America's most significant events. Its starting point, Boston Common, is the oldest park in the country and spans almost 50 acres. Look up toward Beacon Hill and you'll see the copper dome of the new State House. After visiting Park Street Church and the Granary Burying Ground—a short walk from the Common—spend some time at King's Chapel before visiting Boston Latin School, the first public school in America, and Old Corner Bookstore. Next, you'll come across Old South Meeting House. Built in 1729 as a Puritan house of worship, it was the largest building in colonial Boston. Nearby is the Old State House, which dates back to 1713 and was the center of all political life and debate in colonial Boston. In front of the building, a circle of cobblestones commemorates the Boston Massacre. Stop for lunch at Faneuil Hall before visiting the Paul Revere House, Old North Church, and Copp's Hill Burying Ground. Bunker Hill Monument, the site of the first major battle of the American Revolution, and the USS Constitution round out a full day on the trail.
