The Museum of Science, Boston, takes a hands-on approach to science, engineering, and technology, attracting about 1.5 million visitors a year with its programs and interactive exhibits. Founded in 1830, the museum was the first of its kind to embrace all the sciences under one roof. Highlights include the Elihu Thomson Theater of Electricity, the Charles Hayden Planetarium, the Mugar Omni Theater, the Gordon Current Science & Technology Center, the 3-D Digital Cinema, and the Butterfly Garden. The museum's "Science Is an Activity" exhibit plan has been awarded many National Science Foundation grants and influenced science centers worldwide. Its National Center for Technological Literacy aims to enhance knowledge of engineering and technology for people of all ages and inspire the next generation of engineers, inventors, and scientists. The Museum of Science is ranked No. 3 by Parents magazine in its list of the country's "Ten Best Science Centers." It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Thursday (closing at 7 p.m. in the summers), with a 9 p.m. closing on Fridays. Entrance to the exhibit halls costs $18 for children and $21 for adults.
