- Carry and drink at least one gallon of water if you are out for the day; snacks and sport drinks are also good.
- Most of the Cactus Forest area has gentle terrain. For more rugged and scenic countryside, head to the area east of Garwood Trail.
- These trails are day-use only, but with a backcountry permit you can continue east on the Douglas Spring Trail into the Saguaro Wilderness and its campgrounds.
