Far from morbid, Bonaventure Cemetery is considered one of the most stunning cemeteries in the country. It's filled with exquisite Victorian sculptures, huge live oak trees, and azaleas and camellias, and you can easily spend several hours exploring these 160 hauntingly beautiful acres and discovering the countless architectural jewels. Songwriter Johnny Mercer is buried here; his famous Moon River ballad is based on a nearby river from his Savannah childhood. Bring a picnic and stay to enjoy the serenity of the stone gardens, the carved monuments, and the abundant natural beauty of the park-like setting.
