Black Mountain Trail begins in chaparral at an elevation 4,480 feet and ends on the forested slopes of Black Mountain, elevation 7,772 feet. There are excellent views of Banning Pass and Mt. Gorgonio. This trail passes through a Research Natural Area containing ecosystems used for research study purposes.

Directions: From Banning, CA, Travel southeast along Highway 243 into the Forest. The trailhead is located 1.3 miles south of the Vista Grande Fire Station. Trail begins on the uphill side of the road.

Elevation Gain: 3,292 feet
