  • The moderate West Glacier Trail leaves from Mendenhall Campground. This is a chance to walk through the succession zone and see how plants re-colonize deglaciated earth. You will also enjoy great views and good birding opportunities.
  • See the glacier by kayak! Mendenhall Lake provides one of the most convenient and dramatic opportunities to access a glacier by kayak in the state.
  • Stop along the road before you reach the visitor center.Here, in late summer, watch red and silver salmon spawn in Steep Creek.
