Sassafras Nature Trail may be accessed by the Gun Lake Campground office. This is a flat, wooded trail that loops back to the trailhead or allows campers to connect with the Long Lake Trail at the halfway point.
Directions: From Wayland, MI, Take US 131 south turning east at the Bradley exit. Take CR A-42 (Chief Noonday Road) east to Gun Lake Road following the signs to Yankee Springs Headquarters. Obtain detailed park map at this point.
