Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth, including the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Because the area is completely roadless and consists of 2.3 million acres—an expanse larger than Yellowstone—a seaplane tour is the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. The most popular tour lasts two hours and takes visitors into the heart of the monument.

Parks and OutdoorsExpert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • Island Wings Air Service will fly you from Ketchikan across Revillagegedo Island to the Alaska mainland where the fjords are located. Land on a remote lake or on the calm saltwater of the fjords for a few minutes on land in a vast and beautiful wilderness.
  • You can also arrange for a drop-off in the park, allowing you to spend up to several hours hiking or relaxing in the lush forest.
  • Charter an air taxi to drop you off at any of the numerous backcountry public-use Forest Service cabins in the area for an overnight stay.
