• Rent a bike for the day from the house and travel out past the airport toward Point Woronzof. Lock up the bike and hike down the bluff to the beach, where you can see Fire Island, the Kenai Mountains, the Talkeetnas, and the Tordrillo and Alaska Ranges, while the unusually swift tides of Cook Inlet flow and ebb. Clear days reveal Mounts McKinley and Foraker far to the north.
• When you reach the parking lot near the airport at Point Woronzof, lock up the bikes and walk down the hill to the beach. Head south along the shoreline into the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, where birds, moose, and even bears are known to roam.
