• This 4,000-acre park is practically an extension of the great Chugach State Park protruding into Anchorage. Many of the trails are relatively well traveled, but wildlife encounters are not rare, so be alert.
• From the upper parking lot, hike the 4.5-mile Spencer Loop through more rugged terrain, including a swift creek and a ridge climb that gives views of a whitewater gorge.
