Four and a half millennia of world history is documented through Bata's collection of 10,000 shoes in an award-winning structure near the Royal Ontario Museum. Four galleries showcase footwear through the ages, from ancient Egyptian sandals to 16th-century Italian mules to bear fur shoes to 20th-century celebrity footwear, including those of David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe, and Drew Barrymore. The permanent collection features a few stand-out highlights, such as Queen Victoria's slippers, Elton John's silver platform boots, and Elvis Presley's blue loafers, and there are impressive examples of Native American and Circumpolar shoes.
