Atlanta Zoo (Howard Sumner)

From well-known native wildlife to critically endangered species, Zoo Atlanta offers memorable close encounters with more than 1,000 animals from around the world, including African lions, Sumatran tigers, Komodo dragons, and Panamanian golden frogs. It is also the home of Xi Lan, the only giant panda cub ever to be born in the United States, as well as the popular Boundless Budgies: A Parakeet Adventure, the largest interactive experience of its kind in the Southeast. Other highlights include the nation's largest collection of great apes and a center for the care and reproduction of vanishing amphibians and reptiles. Zoo Atlanta celebrated its 121st birthday in March 2010, making it one of the 10 oldest zoos in continuous operation in the nation.
