The Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, is considered by many to have the best collection of modern Western masterpieces in the world. Its holdings include more than 150,000 pieces and approximately 22,000 films and four million film stills. MoMA recently completed the largest and most ambitious building project in its history, which nearly doubled its space for exhibitions and programs. The David and Peggy Rockefeller Building, on the western portion of the site, houses the main exhibition galleries, and The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, on the eastern portion of the site, houses classrooms, auditoriums, teacher training workshops, and the expanded library and archives. The two buildings frame the enlarged Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. The museum welcomes thousands of visitors every year, but an even larger public is served by its national and international programs, which include circulating exhibitions and loan programs.
