Button Bay State Park in Vergennes, Vermont, might be worth a look. Of course, on the opposite shore of Lake Champlain on the New York side, you've got the endless expanse of Adirondack State Preserve in which to play. Maybe check out the primitive sites at Noblewood Park, a nice quiet spot a few miles north of the Essex ferry dock on Willsboro Point.
